Yorkton Conference
Convention March 2004

The convention of the Yorkton conference was held at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Yorkton on Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27.  Attendance was fair, and there was a quorum on Saturday so that we could do the business of the church.  Friday night the opening service was well attended, and the opening sermon by Bishop Cindy Halmarson.  Following that began the theme of the convention, Passing on the Faith, with a presentation by Bishop Cindy Halmarson.
After the worship service and opening of the convention, there was a fellowship time over coffee, and those who were staying in town for the night were to meet the persons with whom they were billeting.  As some of the parishes represented are nearby, the pastors and delegates had planned to drive home and return in the morning.  During the worship service there had been an ice storm, and cars were covered with ice.  True to Canadian style, telephone calls were placed and quickly there was a billet for everyone who wanted to stay rather than risk the icy roads.
Saturday began with opening devotions by Laurel Seyfert, intern at St. Paul, Yorkton, and David Jensen, intern at Good Shepherd, Melville.  Bishop Cindy Halmarson gave her report on the synod, followed by Ray Yost with the first part of a report on the Congregational Lay Assistant program.  The first ballot for Conference Dean was held and we broke for lunch.
After the noon meal, Murray Patzwold presented the second part of the program on Passing on the Faith, and Margaret Anne Yost presented the second part of the report on the CLA program.  Following that, Pastor Gustavo Gomez, from our companion synod in Argentina, presented a powerpoint/slide show and spoke about the Lutheran church in argentina, and the relationship between the Saskatchewan Synod of the ELCIC and the IELU.
On this and following pages are some photos from the Yorkton Convention.
